“Becoming a mission Minded family”

“Goldilocks and the 3 Parents”
Part 1

Julie Verner, PhD

Are your limits too hard, too soft, or just right? Our world is awash with parenting opinion. While one book advises one approach, another seems to make a case for the exact opposite. How are we supposed to make sense of all this conflicting advice? Who is right and what really works? Research has shown that a balance of kind and firm parenting is associated with the best child outcomes. In this class, we will provide an introduction to what kind and firm parents do and say and why it’s so good for our kids.

Brad Griffin, Director of Fuller Youth Institute

Ever feel like you and your kids are drowning in a sea of new questions, apps, and devices? Want to talk about digital media more in your family, but aren’t sure how?

Digital media can be a force that helps knit our families together rather than ripping us apart at the seams. Enjoy this video for tips to develop a plan that works for your family without making media—or you—the enemy!

This class will offer new breakthroughs for your most pressing tech-related dilemmas: using social media responsibly, setting limits on device usage without isolating your kids from their friends, and how to handle inappropriate sharing.

“RAISING RESILIENT KIDS”

Susan Reedy, MFT

Ever feel like
your child (or you) lose your cool when a situation is too difficult? Want to know why our bodies have a “flight or fight reaction” when there is a perceived threat?

Resilience is the ability to bounce back from the difficult times of life and move forward with confidence and assurance. God gifted all of humanity with resilience, as seen throughout the stories of our favorite Bible heroes. However, some children are born with a wider “resilient zone” and are naturally more easy going, while others seem to get bumped out of their zone with the slightest sound, change of schedule or when the broccoli simply touches the mashed potatoes.

This class will provide a set of skills that will help you and your child learn how to track your body’s response to stress. When the whole family works together to widen their “resilient zone”, parents can be more calm and collected, while children are better able to express their fears, needs and concerns in a reasonable manner.
